Good day everybody! Ever been in a bar or restaurant and felt like you were right at home… Well go no further than the Coral Room! Bartenders Brooks, Easy and even the newbie Evan are great and pore the best drinks this side of the I-25… Kevin is killing it in the kitchen (pulled pork sliders, coconut shrimp skewers and a chocolate dessert that will make your momma cry) with a twist from the norm… and VERY cute and friendly waitresses. Need I say more, check out DJ Mu$a on Thursday nights and get your boogie on!

The Big River is Amazon.com

I’ll bet you never really thought of Amazon.com as a social networking site. Consider this: in addition to being able to buy just about anything on “The Big River,” there is a thriving social community that discusses anything from romance fiction to finance on forums. Anyone who has an account on Amazon can also contribute articles, lists called Listmania, authors can import their blogs to show on the sales page of their book and interact with their readers. Anyone can also review books and products and publish their reviews on the site. (Research has shown that the reviewers have a lot of clout with potential buyers.) New to the site is Amapedia, Amazon’s version of a wiki, which has entries about products available on the site.

The thousands of independent sellers on Amazon also have their own forums, where they can trade business tips and talk about pertinent and not-so-pertinent issues.

Linking up on LinkedIn.com

Yes, that was definitely a bad pun. However, LinkedIn.com operates on the “six degrees of separation” theory that none of us are more than six people away from anyone else. Your immediate network of 100 people becomes a potential network of over a million due to the inclusion of your connections’ connections and their connections, and so on and so on.

LinkedIn was originally conceived as a pure business to business networking site. It has a few gizmos to play with – like you can import your blog and say what new business book you’re reading – but unlike Facebook you can’t send anybody big wet kisses or throw sheep at them. (I honestly don’t know what would be worse.) LinkedIn’s unspoken motto might be “Let’s keep our dignity, people!”

That’s so Tweet!

Twitter is another social media tool that allows you to keep track of and inform your followers of daily insights, epiphanies, moods and more!

Your personal and professional aspects of life will intermingle in Twitter. I’ve enjoyed connecting with people who share the same interests I do,like gardening and cooking. I’ve also benefited from connecting with people who are my teachers when it comes to doing my job better. Twitter has opened many windows for me to peer into and view different perspectives, ideas, and opinions. On a business level, you can promote and build your brand, build relationships with your customers and vendors, and attract new customers.

You can ask questions through Twitter, and get answers with the same theme running through them but with slightly different slants or perspective. You can voice your opinions, recommendations, thoughts, insights and rants and also discover what your customers are saying about you. Sharing information and breaking news allows national and local networking with your peers in the industry. You can find out about current and future trends before your competition. You can track discussions on topics that are of interest to you and your business. You can monitor what the leading authorities in your industry are thinking, doing and saying right now!

As users become more experienced and discerning Twitter will undoubtedly continue to become a powerful and influential global communication tool.

It’s On Craigslist

Craigslist is a free online tool for classified ads. It serves the United States, Canada, parts of Mexico, and many parts of the rest of the world. Simply find a city near you and then have your choice of many different markets, whether you’re trying to find a job, an employee, a house, or a date. If you can think of it, it’s probably on Craigslist. With the exception of job offerings, (they are free to browse but cost $25 to post) the rest of the site is free to post an ad or browse till your heart’s content.

“The on-line garage sale” is a good way to describe this simple, yet effective site. Whether you’re buying or selling, it’s on Craigslist. Businesses can take advantage of another great aspect of the site by posting upcoming events whether they local, live events or virtual events on the net. The only downfall to posting on Craigslist is the time it takes to create a template that will agree with their html standards; otherwise you have to post an image or text with a link.

It’s not hard to find what you are looking for, but it is worthwhile to put in a little time to get the best deal. Craigslist really is one of the best tools on the internet, and its postings are so effective that it has become the modern day classifieds, putting a dent in the pockets of the local newspapers.

Facebook Rules!

To those unfortunate non-facebookers out there, you will soon be part of the global social media project that is consuming 2-3 hours per 175 million active users time a day. Social Media Marketing has become the most effective and inexpensive way to communicate and advertise worldwide. Reaching out to an old high school friend or placing an ad for your business, you cannot afford NOT to be part of facebook.com.

Facebook.com is privately owned and rivaling an old timer in the internet search biz, Google, and its search applications are so impressive even to the smallest of consumers, you and me. If I were looking for a colleague from the past, all I would have to do is type in their name or email and seconds later, I can view a profile, pictures of family, friends, and events. I wasn’t completely sold on it the first time I heard about either… An hour after joining, I was hooked!

Small business and large corporations are also taking notice. The social networking aspect of facebook.com is still in infantile stages and I recommend using advertising tactics of all kinds to start a buzz on a new product or even your business, and maybe someday you’ll RULE!
